History

1972 Carapace LLC was born in Bladensburg, MD located on the outskirts of Washington, DC. Known then as Wall Products, we primarily served as a distributor for Formica® Brand Laminates to top shops, independent lumber yards, small home centers and government facilities in the Baltimore/Washington area.

1979 DuPont Corian® solid surfaces, a new and innovative material for surfacing applications, joins the Carapace offering of products.

1989 Carapace is on the move and expanding its distribution area to the state of Georgia creating the Carapace South territory. A regional warehouse and sales office is opened in Atlanta, GA.

1990 With an eye to the future and the evolution of its business and product offering, the company changed its name to Carapace, a word that embodies style and strength with a little sophistication.

1992 Recognizing the diversity of market influences, Carapace changes its sales strategy from geographic to business segments. Sales teams are defined by the segment they service: new home builders, residential remodelers, commercial specifiers, and fabrication businesses.

1997 Carapace extends Carapace South to include Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.

1999 Carapace moves it facilities in the Carapace North territory from its home of over 25 years to Savage, MD. Centrally located between Washington, DC and Baltimore, Carapace establishes itself as the preeminent distributor of surfacing materials in the region.

2000 Carapace focuses its efforts and streamlines its product offering to Corian® solid surfaces and related products.

Also in 2000 The Carapace Piedmont territory is added to Carapace consisting of North Carolina, South Carolina, and eastern Tennessee. A sales office is opened in Charlotte, NC.

2001 Carapace begins to redefine itself and expands its product offering to include Zodiaq® quartz surfaces, the next innovation from DuPont combining the beauty of natural quartz with DuPont technology.

2003 to today Carapace continues to find and incorporate branded products such as Blanco stainless steel sinks and faucets, and ARPA high-pressure laminates. The product offering reflects Carapace’s strategy to provide excellent quality in both material and service to its customers throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
