Choosing a countertop material
Today’s creative designers and consumers enjoy a wider range of color, patterns and material type than ever before. It's easy to get caught up choosing a kitchen countertop material based on looks or price alone. However, it's extremely important to consider how the countertop material will be used to first determine which type will provide the best choice.
Once the needs of the countertop material has been defined, consider the quality of the various materials based on those specific needs. If the countertop material will be subject to stains, you’ll want to look for a stain-resistant material. If, instead, the countertop will require harsh cleaning, you’ll want to look for a countertop material that allows abrasive cleaners to be used.
A natural choice for many countertop projects is the care-free durability and versatility of DuPont Corian. The porous-free Corian material requires only normal cleaning and, if scratched or damaged, it is easy to repair.
Carapace also offers the timeless beauty of granite countertop materials, luxurious Zodiaq® quartz, Soterra™, natural soapstone and colorful ARPA high-pressure laminates for projects that require a beautiful and unique appearance.
Choosing the ideal surface for your project will require a lot of knowledge and thought about the types of materials available. Carapace provides the following information to help you determine which countertop material will meet your specific design, durability and budget needs.

Natural Soapstone
Soapstone is a natural stone that is a perfect choice for a variety of interior and exterior surfaces, including countertops. Although smooth and silky to touch, it is a durable and dense surface. It can be cleaned using any cleaning products, from liquid detergents to abrasive cleansers. Soapstone does not need sealing or polishing, although the application of mineral oil will enhance the color of the stone.
It possesses all the beauty of other natural stones, such as granite or marble, with additional performance strengths. Soapstone is inert which means that acids and alkalis will not etch soapstone as they will other stone surfaces. It is also impervious to temperature changes. Soapstone seams can be made tight, smooth, and inconspicuous. It is cut with conventional wood and masonry cutting and finishing tools.
